## A Free Site Visit from Your Local Farnham Architect

At Abode, our free architect consultation isn't just a phone call. It's a visit to your site. We come to you, see the space first-hand, and talk through the real possibilities and constraints together.

Over 20 years, we've learned that the [best architectural projects](https://abodearchitects.co.uk/abode-architect-portfolio-farnham) begin with being present. After all, a phone call can only tell us so much. Standing on your site, we can see the orientation, the neighbours, the access, the opportunities and the challenges that no amount of description can fully convey.

Our free architect consultation and site visit is available to anyone considering a project at their own home in Farnham, Surrey or the surrounding area. There's no obligation, no pressure, and no charge. It's simply the most useful starting point we know of, for you and for us.

Whether you're considering a modest extension, a [complete renovation,](https://abodearchitects.co.uk/abode-architect-portfolio-farnham/arts-and-crafts-house-remodelled-and-extended) or a new build, we'll help you understand what's [genuinely possible on your site.](https://abodearchitects.co.uk/architect-design-process-farnham) We've worked on everything from [sensitive conservation work on listed buildings](https://abodearchitects.co.uk/abode-architect-portfolio-farnham/grade-ii-listed-barn-conversion) to [contemporary extensions](https://abodearchitects.co.uk/abode-architect-portfolio-farnham/arts-and-crafts-extension-with-views) and new builds across Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, and Kent.

Many clients tell us the site visit helps clarify their own thinking considerably: not just about what they want to build, but about how they want to live. It's a conversation, not a presentation.

We come to you, see the site, and talk through what's genuinely possible.

 ## The Brief Call Before Your Visit

Before we visit, we'll give you a quick call, typically no more than 10 to 15 minutes. This isn't a consultation in itself; it's simply a chance for us to understand the basics of your project so that when we arrive, we can make the most of our time together on site.

We'll ask a few straightforward questions: what you're hoping to build, any planning considerations you're already aware of, and a rough sense of your timeline. As a result, we can turn up prepared, with relevant experience in mind and the right questions to ask.

We're honest about what a phone call can and can't offer. Detailed design advice really does need to happen in person, with the site in front of us. The brief call is there to set up a successful visit. Nothing more, nothing less.

A quick conversation so we arrive at your site prepared and ready to make the most of our visit.

The Initial Call- Brief 10–15 minute call at your convenience
- Basic overview of your project and site
- Allows us to arrive prepared for the site visit
- We'll agree a convenient time for the visit

 ## What to Expect on the Day

### Reading the Site Together

The visit begins with us simply looking and listening. We'll walk the site with you, taking in orientation, boundaries, neighbouring properties, access points, and the character of the surroundings. What seems like a constraint on paper can often become a design opportunity in person. We've spent 20+ years finding those opportunities.

### Understanding Your Vision

As we walk the site, we'll talk through your ideas and aspirations. What prompted you to consider this project? What do you hope to achieve? [The best designs emerge from understanding how you want to live,](https://abodearchitects.co.uk/abode-architect-portfolio-farnham) and that conversation is much richer when we're standing in the space together.

### Planning & Practical Considerations

We'll discuss [planning constraints](https://abodearchitects.co.uk/architect-design-process-farnham) relevant to your site: permitted development rights, local planning policies, any [conservation or listed building considerations.](https://abodearchitects.co.uk/abode-architect-portfolio-farnham/contemporary-office-in-a-conservation-area) We'll also cover building regulations, realistic budget parameters, and typical timescales for a project like yours.

### Next Steps

At the end of the visit, if we both feel there's a good fit, we'll outline the next steps clearly, which typically means a fee proposal and a summary of the design brief. If it's not the right fit, we'll be honest about that too, and we may be able to suggest other approaches or professionals better suited to your project. Either way, you'll leave with a clearer picture of your options.

 ## Why Book a Free Site Visit with Abode?

Most of our clients tell us they appreciate that our free architect consultation begins on their own site, not in an office. It sets a different tone for the project from the start: grounded, practical, and genuinely collaborative.

With [98% of our planning applications approved since 2003](https://abodearchitects.co.uk/award-winning-architects-farnham), and having worked on everything from sensitive heritage projects to [contemporary new builds](https://abodearchitects.co.uk/abode-architect-portfolio-farnham/contemporary-house-on-a-hill-transformed), we bring considerable experience to that first conversation on site.

As a [RIBA chartered practice based in Farnham](https://find-an-architect.architecture.com/abode-architects-llp/farnham), we offer a free architect consultation and site visit to clients across Waverley Borough and the surrounding regions of Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, and Kent. In particular, we understand the local planning authorities, local context, and the specific challenges and opportunities of building in this area.

Our approach is rooted in collaboration. [We use 3D CAD models extensively](https://abodearchitects.co.uk/about-abode-architects-farnham#process-video) throughout a project because we've found they're invaluable for helping clients visualise spaces and make confident decisions, with changes made in real time during our meetings.

We're problem-solving specialists who enjoy pushing design boundaries whilst respecting context and constraints. Furthermore, our technical expertise comes from extensive site experience, which helps us produce drawings that contractors can work from with confidence.

We also care about sustainability and ethical practice. We only specify timber from [sustainable sources](https://abodearchitects.co.uk/about-abode-architects-farnham) and we're happy to discuss how your project can incorporate [sustainable design principles](https://abodearchitects.co.uk/architectural-services-farnham) without compromising on aesthetics or functionality.

Design-led, technically strong, and focused on making the building process a good experience.
